Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver is one of the three most precious metals along with gold and platinum which has been used for many years to make jewelry with.  It is an alloy of silver containing 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent other metals, mainly copper. Pure silver 99.9 percent is too soft in its state to make into jewelry, even though it is harder than gold and more plentiful.  An alloy is made by adding 7 percent copper and a tiny amount of zinc to make the silver harder, resulting is .925 or Sterling Silver. The term Sterling Silver emerged from 13th Century England.  The word sterling was believed to have been originated from the French word esterlin, which means little star and Old English sire, which means strong and firm.

Sterling Silver fashion jewelery will never go out of style as it has been a mainstay in history and to this day.

Body Jewelry

Body piercing can be traced 4000-5000 years back in history. The oldest mummy in the world discovered in an Austrian glacier was found to have ear piercing. Nose piercing for instance was first mentioned in The Bible, when Abraham's servant, gave a nose ring to Rebeca, Abraham's son, Isaacs future wife. In the ancient world body piercing was often identified with royalty and symbolized courage and ardor. The Pharaohs in Egypt wore navel rings as a rite of passage from the world of the living to the after world. High ranking Roman soldiers pierced their nipples to show their manhood and obligation to protect their Caesars.

And still up till now men and women wear body jewelry but not for the same reasons as the people from the ancient world did. In the 20th century, body piercing became a symbol of rebellion and self-expression of the individual. Today body piercing is now seen as an artistic expression or a form of sexual expression. Body piercings can be seen on many younger celebrities of today such as Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and many more.
